STAR World brings you the hit comedy
Samantha Who?. In her Golden Globe-nominated role, Christina Applegate (Married With Children) stars as a coma victim who awakens with no memory of her mega-nasty past.
Injured in a car accident, Samantha Newly (Applegate) awakens from an eight-day coma with amnesia. While trying to piece together her past, she learns that she used to be a self-absorbed, catty diva.
Taking her amnesia as a sign for change, she tries to make amends for the damage caused by her former self. Throughout her recovery, she re-examines her relationships with her boyfriend Todd (Barry Watson, What About Brian), best pal Andrea (Jennifer Esposito,) and mum (Jean Smart, Designing Women) while rediscovering the true meaning of life.
After starring in such big-screen comedies as
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and
The Sweetest Thing, Applegate makes a much-anticipated return to TV. "I don't like to do the same things twice," she explains. "So if I am coming back to TV, it has to have different elements from everything I have done."
"I like the idea of taking a situation that is not funny and put a spin to it," Applegate adds. "Comedy has to be based on reality or it's not going to be funny. My character in Samantha Who? is a confused coma victim. She is just a brand new person who has been stripped of her past. We want to take real situations with real characters for a real struggle. It's something interesting to tackle."
During its US debut season,
Samantha Who? was well received by critics. LA Weekly wrote that the show was "well-made, sly, heartwarming," while Newsday described it as "a sparkling comedy." Elsewhere, LA Times concluded that it was "sweet and smart, without one term compromising the other.'"
Let the wacky journey of self-discovery begin as Samantha Who? premieres on STAR World.
