Doug Heffernan (Kevin James)
Doug Heffernan (Kevin James) lives in Queens. And, he likes to think he is king of his two-storey, one family brick castle. His sanctuary is the garage that houses his prized possession -- a 70-inch television, a gift from his loving wife Carrie. But, the walls to Doug's castle are closing in, as Carrie's twice-widowed father Arthur lives in the basement.

Doug and Carrie cling to their loving relationship to get them through, while trying to find privacy and peace in a house with an active senior citizen.

Doug is always on the road in his delivery van. For balance, Doug turns to his three buddies, who each have their own unique perspective to share.


Carrie Heffernan (Leah Remini)
Carrie Heffernan (Leah Remini) is Doug's loving wife. Her twice-widowed father Arthur lives in the basement with them. Carrie's career takes her to a world away in Manhattan where she works as a legal secretary.

Carrie is strong- willed and fairly opinionated. She takes refuge in her female friendships - girls that give her that all-important female perspective.


Arthur Spooner (Jerry Stiller)
Arthur Spooner (Jerry Stiller) is Carrie's high-maintenance dad. He lives with his daughter and son-in-law in their basement. He emerges every day with a new complaint, get-rich-quick scheme or the latest bulletin on his various bodily functions. His constant presence and often bizarre behavior add to their daily adventures.
